A new, one-stop shop action hub is a digital toolkit for eliminating lead pipes ASAP.

WASHINGTON, DC | JULY 1, 2025 The Lead Innovation Hub, an action-focused website designed as a go-to resource for lead service line replacement (LSLR) needs and solutions, has formally launched. It features a series of practical and motivating Roadmaps for State Decision-Makers, Mayors, and Water Utilities, with a Community Roadmap launching later this year.

Designed to accelerate action, the Hub empowers users with knowledge, tools, and resources to quickly and effectively eliminate lead pipes from their communities. The Hub’s Lead Pipes 101 and user-specific Roadmaps are equipped with action-driven information, best practices, success stories, cost-effective solutions, and cutting-edge resources to replace lead pipes faster, fully, and forever.

Each Roadmap is framed by a series of 5-7 principles for users to embrace as they guide their communities’ lead service line replacement. Each principle includes clear, actionable steps backed by dedicated toolboxes of information, guides, and templates to expedite progress.

The Lead Innovation Hub features more than 200 resources prepared by subject-matter experts and practitioners, including 128 case studies, 55 user tools, and 48 reports and analyses. The Hub equips users with actionable guidance, analysis, and tactical steps to navigate their communities’ unique challenges, accelerating progress toward full replacement of toxic lead pipes. We will add new resources regularly to keep pace with evolving solutions and needs.

“Millions of homes across the country still get water through toxic lead pipes. Replacing them is essential for safe drinking water. Yet we’ve found it is often practical issues that slow down progress in doing so. We’re committed to providing information, innovative tools, and practical resources to allow any utility or community to more quickly remove harmful lead pipes faster, fully, fairer, and forever.”

Dr. Tim Male, Executive Director of Environmental Policy Innovation Center (EPIC)

While the Hub is open to all, it is especially tailored to the work of state and local leaders, utilities, and organizers striving to improve public health, strengthen local economies, optimize funding sources and reduce costs, and expedite critical updates to aging infrastructure.

The Hub is an ongoing initiative led by the Environmental Policy Innovation Center (EPIC) in close partnership with many collaborators. The Mayor’s Roadmap, released earlier this year, was a collaboration between Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) and EPIC, with support from other advisors and partners.
