Garrett Altmann

Senior Manager, Western Restoration Program

Garrett serves as Senior Manager of EPIC’s Western Restoration Program, where he brings a blend of technical expertise, nature-based approaches, and on-the-ground experience to advance resilient ecosystems and communities. As part of the Restoration Economy Center, he works with Tribes and under-resourced communities to access funding and manage complex restoration projects, with a focus on habitat connectivity and climate resilience. In addition, he works to develop strategies that advance state and national policies aimed at reducing regulatory, programmatic, and procurement barriers to restoration.

Prior to joining EPIC, Garrett worked with Santa Clara Pueblo in New Mexico, where he partnered with the Tribe to integrate nature-based solutions and Indigenous knowledge to develop nationally recognized restoration initiatives. He holds a B.A. in Geography from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and an M.Sc. in Natural Resource Management from the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Get to Know Me Further

What drives me is a passion to restore and unlock the full potential of natural systems. I’m fortunate to have grown up in the coastal and intermountain West, where I experienced firsthand the benefits of these landscapes and came to understand how they are shifting and responding to change.

Healthy ecosystems provide habitat and biodiversity that help regulate climate, support human health, economies, and build resilience. They also offer endless opportunities for recreation, which I especially enjoy—skiing, fishing, and spending time outdoors with my wife and our two young sons.
